WHO WE ARE
The North Carolina Playwrights Alliance originally formed out of a meeting of playwrights at
the North Carolina Writers' Network Conference in November 2001.
Playwrights
from around the state have rallied together to share
information and resources, celebrate the work of playwrights, and advocate to
improve the environment for new plays in North Carolina. The Alliance's
achievements have been impressive and include:

Declaration by Governor Easley of 2002-2003 as the
"Year of the North Carolina Playwright." (Click

Development of programs and workshops for playwrights at the
North Carolina Writers' Network Conference and North Carolina Theatre
Conference.
Securing a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council to
bring in Charles Kopelman (Douglas & Kopelman Artists, Inc.-NYC) to
present a workshop on finding a play agent and also read and critique selected plays by
North Carolina writers.

Institution of quarterly meetings around the state to
network, plan activities, and share our work.

Creation of an electronic presence through the Alliance list
serve and web site, and design of outreach materials including mailers
and newsletters to promote the activities of NC playwrights.
Collaboration with North Carolina Theatre Educators
Association on "Playworks," an exciting new statewide
Playwrights-in the-Schools program.
Production of the country's first (wild and crazy)
"Play Slam"!
Participation in Theatre-Playwright Roundtable to assess
the state of new plays in North Carolina.

Fun pot-lucks and parties!
ORGANIZATIONAL
STRUCTURE
The Alliance is set up as a membership organization, with an
executive board selected from the members. Please click on
